You Don’t Have to Live With Back Pain

| October 15, 2014 | Reply

AutumnAgonizing back pain.  I used to think that was something that only Grandmas could get.  Then one morning while playing with my kids, I sneezed and had my own Grandma pain plus.  Suddenly as I was lying in agony on my dining room floor, I realized what acute low back pain was all about.

Even though I had some previous minor low back problems while I was pregnant, occasional physiotherapy when I had time to fit it in around swimming lessons, grocery shopping and work got me by just fine, thank you very much. My back soreness would resolve quickly after only a few Physiotherapy treatments here at Capilano Rehab Centre.  I would be feeling better and to be honest, I didn’t put much thought into my back until it would get sore again.  I probably should have been more diligent with the exercises I was given, but somehow I didn’t follow through.

So when I had my sharp back attack, I needed major professional intervention.  Thankfully my amazing Capilano Physiotherapists were there for me.  In the early stages, they utilized the Class IV K-Laser™ and that is what a large portion of my rehab focused around.  In the early acute stages of my injury, the K-Laser accelerated healing and decreased inflammation, pain and scar tissue formation.  Truthfully, for the first week and a half, this was all that would help reduce my pain.

The K-Laser has had thousands of studies published indicating the clinical effectiveness of Laser Therapy.  The K-Laser is proven to biostimulate tissue repair and growth, reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness and pain.  What makes the K-Laser so effective is that it enhances and dramatically accelerates the body’s own natural healing powers, which produces long lasting pain relief….all without surgery or drugs!  For individuals with chronic back injuries like myself, or with chronic knee or shoulder pain this may be an effective way to help relieve pain associated with arthritis or degenerative changes without the harsh side effects of many prescription and non-prescription drugs.

And now that my back pain has gone from acute to sub-acute, the staff have successfully incorporated Spinal Decompression into my treatment program.  While the K-Laser helps manage the pain that degenerative changes and my disc protrusion are causing, the Spinal Decompression is helping my disc recover.

Spinal Decompression Therapy is also another innovative therapy Capilano offers for back pain relief.  Spinal Decompression Therapy can help the following:

  • Chronic back pain
  • Degenerative, herniated or bulging discs
  • Leg pain related to degenerative disc
  • Trouble sleeping due to back pain
  • Aching back from sitting, driving, or lifting
  • Sore back from child and elderly care
  • Back pain from golf, hockey or racquet sports

Spinal decompression is designed to unload the pressure on a spinal disc. Any back pain caused in whole or in part by a damaged disc may be helped by spinal decompression therapy. These conditions include herniated, protruding or bulging discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica or radiculopathy (pinched nerves).

Both the K-Laser Therapy and Spinal Decompression Therapy are treatment programs that are very affordable with no up-front pre-payments required and no set minimum treatments you are required to pay for in advance.  Simply put:  at Capilano you only pay per treatment!
